The English Department class of 2004 celebrates the 35th anniversary of their alma mater and the 10th anniversary of their graduation
School of Foreign Languages, Shenzhen University, April 8, 2018
10 years have passed, and the camaraderie among schoolmates has lasted all this time. On April 7, alumni from the English Department of 2004 returned to Shenzhen University from all over the world to take part in the “Songlike Memories” graduation conference and the celebration of their alma mater’s 35th anniversary. Teachers and students gathered together to review the green years, enjoying talk of old times. Dean Zhang Xiaohong, teachers Zhou Shizhen, Jia Luyi, Li Xiaojun, Jin Nana and more than 60 alumni from the English department class of 2004 attended the gathering. The main purpose of the gathering was to revisit the campus and meet with teachers and students.
In the afternoon, during the campus tour, alumni revisited Wenshan lake, where they once roamed in the rain and shine, the library where they buried their heads in books to prepare for exams, the Science and Technology Building where principal Zhang Bigong held lectures, and the Arts Building which was as spacious and bright as when it first opened. Ten years later, there have been more wonderful changes in the places where they used to live and study. The water in Wenshan Lake is cleaner, the flowers on Dujuan Mountain are more fresh and fragrant, and the grass in front of the Wenke Building is more vigorous. What has not changed is the sincere feeling of schoolmates.
At the teacher-student meeting that night, the alumni stepped up to the podium to express their heartfelt gratitude for Shenzhen University and for the teachers’ instruction over the years, as well as to reminisce about the unforgettable years and deep friendships. Touching words, humor and poetry, tears of joy and excitement flowed naturally. During the gathering, a group of talented singers among the alumni sang several times, and their laughter attracted the applause of the audience.
Teachers shared the joy of reunion with alumni, warmly welcoming them “home”, sincerely wishing them every success in their work, along with happiness for them and their families. They also encouraged them to give back to the community with gratitude.
A gathering after such a long separation is not only an emotional event, but also a time to refresh vitality. Today’s gathering was for a better start tomorrow. Joining a panel discussion, sharing dinner, taking a group photo as a souvenir, and wandering around the campus, they had a happy and fruitful time. After dinner, the party ended. They all felt proud that they had studied at Shenzhen University. Finally, they wished their alma mater a bright future and wished the teachers good health and success in everything.
