Professional prospects: The School of Foreign Languages of Shenzhen University was founded at the beginning of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. SZU’s German major is a new major established in Shenzhen to meet the needs of German talents in the new era. Graduates of the German major have a broad international vision, good Chinese and Western cultural heritage and humanistic qualities, solid comprehensive language abilities, and practice cross-cultural communication between China and Germany, which has broad development prospects. Graduates can go abroad for further study, and they can also put engage in employment and bring their knowledge into practice.
Employment direction: translation and interpreting, administration, foreign affairs, foreign trade, business, etc. of government agencies, public institutions and various types of enterprises; Education sector (primary and secondary school teachers, educational researchers, etc.); Foreign-related Tourism and Culture Industry.

Training objectives: to cultivate all-round German talents with a solid foundation of German language knowledge and strong cross-cultural communication abilities, a comprehensive understanding of the national conditions and social customs of German-speaking countries, good humanitistic understanding and international vision, proficient in the comprehensive application of German and English, and competence in secretarial, teaching, scientific research and other work in foreign affairs, international trade, science and technology, culture, education, tourism and other foreign-related fields.
Knowledge objectives: to master German phonetics, vocabulary, syntax, discourse, rhetoric and other basic knowledge, understand the specific language phenomenon of German society and the connotation of Germanic culture behind it; understand the historical context of German literature development, and be familiar with the representative works of important writers and the basic theories and methods of Western Literary criticism; master the main characteristics of the cultural history of German-speaking countries and the main similarities and differences between Eastern and Western cultures.
Ability training: to have solid basic skills in German listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation, to be able to express oneself in German and English and engage in foreign exchange activities; to be able to read works in social, historical, literary and other fields of German-speaking countries; to have certain abilities of appreciation and evaluation; to have good abilities in cross-cultural communication and cultural communication. Graduates will also have the abilities of critical thinking and cultural innovation, good Chinese and Western humanistic qualities and sustainable development abilities.

(1) Adhering to the characteristic and international cultivation of interdisciplinary talents. In the training program, English courses with the advantages of traditional disciplines will be introduced into the curriculum system to cultivate multilingual talents who master German and English.
(2) Seeking international exchange and cooperation with distinctive features. The University of Jena, Bochum Ruhr University and Humboldt University of Applied Technology in Germany have carried out student exchange, exchange and vacation study tour programs. Students with excellent qualities and performance can apply for a German professional scholarship from the University.
