The ability of English speaking, writing and reading are the basic requirements for high-end talents in the future development of our country. It is also the comprehensive reflection of foreign language ability, critical thinking ability, communicative ability, innovative ability and international competitiveness of high-end talents. Sponsored by the FLTRP (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press), jointly organized by the National Administry Committee on Teaching English Language in Colleges in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education and the National Administry Committee on Teaching English Language to Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, the three major competitions are the largest and highest-level large-scale English competitions for college students (postgraduates) in China. The setting of the three major competitions is driven by the improvement of reading, speaking and writing ability to promote the students’ comprehensive ability of foreign language application. With the requirements of international talents as the standard, the key factors such as speculation, expansibility and creativity are integrated into the competition to enhance students’ awareness of cross-cultural communication, broaden their international vision and enhance their international accomplishment. And the three major competitions have wide coverage with strong representation of contestants on three stages in the same competition site, each of which promote each other with their own characteristics, providing a comprehensive platform for college students across the country to demonstrate their foreign language ability, communication ability and critical thinking ability.
Our university has won many awards in the three competitions, which is closely related to the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Education, the Foreign Language School and the College English Teaching Department.
