Dr Danyang Zhang is a Tenured Associate Professor, Distinguished Research Fellow, and Doctoral Supervisor at the College of International Studies, Shenzhen University, and is recognised as a Shenzhen Overseas High-Level Talent. She obtained her PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge and two master's degrees from University College London. Her research focuses on technology-assisted language learning, international communication, and second language education.
Dr Zhang is currently a principal investigator on projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China and on several provincial-level projects. She serves as a board member of several academic associations, including ChinaCALL and PacCALL. She is an Editorial Board Member of ReCALL (SSCI Q1) and Associate Editor of Artificial Intelligence in Language Education and Applied Language Sciences, and serves as a reviewer for multiple SSCI journals. She has also served as Academic Advisor to the Cambridge China Education Forum (CCEF) and as Vice Chair of a sub-forum at the Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE).
She has been recognised with a range of honours, including the SZU Youth Pioneer Medal, SZU Emerging Graduate Supervisor, SZU Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher, and SZU Outstanding Internship Advisor. Her teaching and research achievements have earned awards such as the Grand Prize of the 2nd SFLEP Cup National University Foreign Language Teachers' Teaching and Research Paper Competition, the 2026 Outstanding Smart Education Case Award, the Best Educational Technology Paper at the British Educational Research Association (BERA) Annual Conference, and the SZU Outstanding Teaching and Research Achievement Award. As a key contributor, she has also received the Second Prize in the 2025 Guangdong Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, the Grand Prize in the 2024 5th Shenzhen Municipal Teaching Achievement Award (Higher Education Category), and the Grand Prize in the 2023 1st Yantian District (Shenzhen) Teaching Achievement Award (Basic Education Category).
