He obtained his PhD from Sun Yatsen University. He is currently professor of English at Shenzhen University. He serves as vice president of International Association for Hallidayan Linguistics and as standing member of China Association of Functional Linguistics. He is also reviewer of both Functional Linguistics and Linguistics and Human Sciences. His research interests include systemic functional linguistics and the Sydney School pedagogy.
