He obtained his Ph.D. in applied linguistics from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. He also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Zhejiang University for one year. His research interests focus on psycholinguistics, bilingual/interpreting language control, and interpreter advantage. Dr. Zhao has published several empirical studies and review articles in both domestic CSSCI journal and international journals. He has been teaching compulsory courses for both undergraduate students majoring in English and graduate students, including English Writing, Academic English Writing, English Public Speaking and Debate, and Comprehensive English for Graduate Students
