Research field
Sociocognitive theory and second acquisition acquisition (SLA)
My current research interest is individual differences and socio-cultural influence in SLA. I hold a degree of Doctor of Education awarded by an Australian university, where I stayed for over 5 years to conduct my research project. My study, guided by sociocognitive theory of SLA, uses mixed-methods to investigate groups of newly-arrived Chinese international students’ perceptions of the factors that have shaped their English learning in Australian context. It proposes a conceptual model to account for the relationships among the contextual and individual factors, showing that those factors are reflexively interrelated and form a dynamic network throughout the period of English learning. A change in one factor usually induces change/modification in other factors, which, in turn, may reflexively cause some changes in the factor where the series of responding reactions originate.
