The Center for Poetry and Drama was established in June 2018. The Center was established in response to Shenzhen University's educational spirit and positioning of "coordinated development, distinctive development, open development and leapfrogging development, to accelerate the construction of a high-level, distinctive and modern first-class university", to help promote the liberal arts and humanities education of the University and the Foreign Language and Literature discipline, and to promote the coordinated development of discipline construction and academic research. The focus of the Center's work is to actively organize multilingual poetry reading, poetry recitation, poetry/drama performance, and poetry/drama creation activities for graduate and undergraduate students, to explore the aesthetic function of poetry and drama, to educate and entertain, and to promote poetry and drama activities to community, so as to give full play to the social function of poetry and drama, i.e. the function of entertainment and education. At the same time, the Center actively promotes the research and teaching of poetry and drama. The main research directions are multilingual poetry, poet and drama studies, poetry translation and poetics. It has gradually broken down cross-disciplinary barriers, and through extensive integration of resources, established a poetry and drama research team integrating classical poetics, modern poetics and comparative poetics between China and the West, and united poets, poetry critics and scholars at home and abroad to promote the research, creation and education of poetry, drama and poetics. We are committed to building a poetry and drama research center based at Shenzhen University and radiating to the whole country.
Achievements of the Center: The Center’s members form the "Provincial Teaching Team of English Poetry and Drama". Its members have published many poetry collections in Chinese and English and many collections with poetry translations. Dozens of their poems and poetry translations have been published in Shi Kan and other Chinese and foreign poetry journals. They have also applied successfully for many projects at the provincial and ministerial levels and published hundreds of academic papers on related topics.
