Lecture by Prof. Thomas Beebee on Preliminary Study on the Field of Translation Guide for Beginners
At 2:30 p.m. on June 30, at the invitation of the school of foreign languages, Mr. Thomas Beebee, a professor of comparative literature and German at Penn State University, presented a wonderful lecture entitled "Preliminary Study on the Field of Translation: Guide for Beginners" in the conference room 1200 of the liberal arts building.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Thomas Beebee made a brief self-introduction, and students warmly welcomed Professor Thomas Beebee's arrival. Then Professor Thomas Beebee introduced the main content of this lecture. First, he explained the relationship among the author, translator, and agent. Secondly, Professor Thomas Beebee took Homeric Epics as an example to analyze the writing style of Homeric Epics. He points out that translators should not only prepare for translation, but also pay attention to the style equivalence between the source language and the target language. Finally, students and teachers present raised wonderful questions, and Professor Thomas Beebee patiently answered them.
Through this lecture, students now not only understand the basic theoretical knowledge of translation, but also have a deep understanding of how to do translation well and how to appreciate translation. It is believed that after this lecture, students will increase their reading of translation theory books, continuously learn and understand how to translate translation texts with general difficulties and pay attention to the combination of knowledge and skills.
