Lecture by Prof. Dai Huiping on Recipe for Simultaneous Interpreting
From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Room H6-304, Wenke Building welcomed professor Dai Huiping, vice Dean of Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), a member of AIIC. She shared with the audience the secrets of simultaneous interpreting and her career as an interpreter.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Dai Huiping introduced the origin of the term "simultaneous interpreting" and guided those present to sympathize with the bittersweet parts of being an interpreter based on her own experiences. Her valuable experience and related theoretical knowledge gained being an interpreter more than 30 years came in handy when guiding students in the interpreting practice and analysis, answering the students on the reading and choice of English journals, instructing graduates how to grasp A \ B language, how to handle long difficult sentence while interpreting and how to manage time as a beginner. At the same time, she put forward some constructive suggestions, such as getting rid of being immature like a student. She also imparted methods and tricks of dealing with uncertain and unfamiliar information, coordinating translation, and interpreting in a real scenario. Students benefited a lot from Professor Dai's humorous and profound lectures and were motivated by her expectations.
