On September 12-13, 2018, the School of Foreign Languages of Shenzhen University hosted the work conference of 2019 International Comparative Literature Association Conference (Macau). Participants included Professor Zhang Longxi, Chair Professor of City University of Hong Kong, Chairman of the International Association for Comparative Literature, Academician of the Academy of Europe and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Professor Sun Yifeng, Chair Professor and Chair Professor of the English Department of the University of Macau, Mr. Brian Cheong, Public and International Relations office of the University of Saint Joseph of Macau, Mr. He Haiming, Chairman of the Macau Convention and Exhibition Association, Mr. Jiang Shibo, Conference Director, Macau Convention and Exhibition Association; Professor Yang Huilin, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Comparative Literature and former Vice President of Renmin University of China, , Professor Zhang Hui, Deputy Director of the Chinese Department of Peking University; Professor Zhang Xiaohong, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Shenzhen University and Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Comparative Literature. The meeting was hosted by Professor Zhang Hui.
During the meeting, Professor Liu Hongyi, Secretary of the Party Committee of our school, and Professor Li Jun, Vice President of our school, met with the participants. Secretary Liu delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Shenzhen University, and at the same time extended a warm welcome to the professors and experts attending the conference. He announced that Shenzhen University will continue to support the International Comparative Literature Association to be held at Shenzhen University from July 27-28, 2019.
Chairman Zhang Longxi fully affirmed Shenzhen University’s support for the conference, and sincerely thanked all parties for their attention and investment in this conference. At the same time, he also expressed concern about the specific difficulties such as short preparation time, heavy tasks, and many partners, and hoped that relevant parties could implement this as soon as possible – especially the official website of the conference should be opened as soon as possible to accept applications. Professor Yang Huilin delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese Society of Comparative Literature, and put forward constructive opinions on the format and operation of Macao's conference. Representatives of the University of Macau, the University of Saint Joseph, and the Macau Convention and Exhibition Association, respectively, outlined the progress in preparation and the existing problems, and discussed and proposed specific details and solutions.
Professor Zhang Xiaohong introduced the preparations and work plan of Shenzhen University for the International Comparative Literature Association Executive Committee Meeting and the 2019 International Comparative Literature Association Conference Summit Forum. Representatives of all participating parties actively discussed and reached consensus on important issues such as the organizational framework, working mechanism, communication channels, and the work progress of the Macau Conference and Shenzhen Summit Forum.
To implement and implement the basic national policy of "One Country, Two Systems" in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Economic Belt, a new type of international academic conference model was established of "One Conference, Two Places". It is organized by the International Comparative Literature Association, the Chinese Society of Comparative Literature, and Macau University, Shenzhen University, and the University of Saint Joseph, which will co-host the 22nd International Comparative Literature Association Conference (Macao) and the International Comparative Literature Association Conference Summit Forum (Shenzhen) in 2019, which is the biggest achievement of this conference. Adhering to the principle of "seeking truth and being pragmatic, and discussing facts based on facts", the participants analyzed the difficulties and challenges faced by holding the conference next year, but all parties are fully confident of the success of the 2019 International Association for Comparative Literature Conference.
