As the forefront of China's reform and opening up, Shenzhen has gradually become an international metropolis with its unique geographical location and economic environment. Being a comprehensive university in the Special Administrative Region, Shenzhen University continues to explore and move forward on the road of internationalization of Higher Education. As an important international language for the internationalization of a city and education, English is particularly important for the basic education community in Shenzhen. The quality of English education not only determines the competitiveness of students in the future international job market, but also profoundly affects Shenzhen’s pace of internationalization. In order to improve the development of Foreign Language teachers in primary and secondary schools, Shenzhen launched the "Shenzhen Action Plan to Promote the Internationalization of Education (2013-2020)" in 2013. One of the important goals of the program is to increase the proportion of primary and secondary schools which are eligible to hire foreign teachers to 20%, with a cumulative number of foreign teachers being 2,000. In order to comply with the Shenzhen Municipal Government's "Action Plan for Promoting the Building of an International City" and enhance the internationalization of Shenzhen University, the School of Foreign Languages has developed a master’s program for Teaching English to Speakers of Chinese (TESOC). The project aims to cultivate foreign English teachers with an international vision and local cultural awareness for basic education institutions in the Pearl River Delta region and across the country. Through courses, workshops, observation, practice, assessment and other forms of education, it tends to enhance their theoretical knowledge and practical teaching ability of English. The course is affiliated to the foreign language and literature, a master’s degree program with first-level discipline at Shenzhen University. Adhering to the pioneering and innovative cultural genes of Shenzhen University, a Peking University-aided project, the discipline of foreign language and literature was accredited in 2010 to offer the first-class master's degree program and in 2013, it was recognized as a first-class key discipline in Guangdong province. As an international program adapted to China's educational, economic and social development, the TESOC program in Shenzhen University has the following five advantages and characteristics:
Solid foundation of professional construction, high degree of international education participation;
