School of Foreign Languages January, 2018
Albert Hoffstadt, Editor-in-chief of Brill Publishers of the Netherlands, paid a visit to the School of Foreign Languages on the morning of January 19. Zhang Xiaohong, director of the Netherlands Studies Center, Zheng Zunxin, associate dean of the School of Economics, and Wang Hongyan, Jin Nana, and Audrey Heijins, part-time researchers of the Center, attended the talks.
Brill Publishers, founded in 1683, is a global publisher with a history of more than 300 years, according to Albert Hoffstadt. It has established partnerships with more than 30 Chinese publishing houses, including Zhonghua Book Company, Peking University Press, and Fudan University Press. Albert Hoffstadt said his visit to the Netherlands Studies Center at Shenzhen University was aimed at expanding the cooperative relationship between Brill Publishers and Shenzhen University.
During the meeting, Professor Zhang Xiaohong proposed three possible directions of cooperation: First, to jointly establish an English language journal for Dutch Studies, which could cover history, culture, law, literature, linguistics, and other research fields. Second, to publish special issues of Dutch studies articles, with the help of more than 200 humanities and social sciences journals under Brill (60%-80% of which are SSCI or A&HCI indexed journals). Third, to establish a cooperative research team which will coordinate the multilateral cooperation in business, academics, and translation between the Netherlands Studies Center of Shenzhen University and Brill Publishers, with a view to promoting the internationalization of academic publishing of Shenzhen University as well as promoting the development of Dutch Studies in China and cultural exchanges between China and the Netherlands.
This visit by the representative of Brill Publishers has initiated international cooperation for the Netherlands Studies Center. It is expected that both sides will further plan the cooperation framework and strategic layout, so as to provide a broader platform for exchanges between Chinese and Dutch scholars.
