In accordance with our school's policy of developing international education and the inter-school cooperation agreement, in order to implement our school's strategy of internationalization of education, cultivate high-quality talents with international vision and international competitiveness, and encourage our students to go abroad for further study and obtain the learning experience of the second campus, in 2020, our school will select a designated number of outstanding students to go to the University of Western Australia, a top university in Australia, to participate in a semester of study.
1.Introduction of the University
The University of Western Australia (UWA) was founded in 1911 and is located in Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is one of the eight prestigious universities in Australia, one of the best five-star universities and one of the most famous top research universities with a lot of history, representativeness and strength in Australia. It is also the member of the World University Alliance (WUN) and Matariki Network of Universities (MNU), and has produced more than 100 Rhodes Scholars and Nobel Laureates. According to the latest QS ranking, the University of Western Australia is ranked 91st, with English, history and linguistics in the top 100. The University of Western Australia School of Humanities has produced seven Australian ambassadors, a Prime Minister and an Oscar winner. According to the research level statistics of the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA), the School of Humanities was rated as a five-star research level in the field of psychology, and Chinese students accounted for 3% of the student population.
In 2018, the School of Humanities of the University of Western Australia established the Overseas Language Learning Center in cooperation with the School of Foreign Languages, which is committed to providing a wide range of learning opportunities for the two institutes to jointly cultivate humanities professionals.
2.Application Conditions
2.1.Only for full-time students with excellent grades, good moral quality, no disciplinary action during school, good physical and mental health, independent life experience and team spirit and the ability to successfully complete overseas study tasks;
2.2.Second and third year English majors are eligible to sign up;
2.3.English Requirements: Students should have good professional foundation and development potential; English proficiency should be accessible in class and communication; IELTS academic test score should be at least 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in each single item); TOEFL total score should be at least 82 (minimum score in each item: 22 for writing, 18 for reading, 20 for speaking and 2 for listening); PTE total score should be at least 58. (Students with IELTS 6.0 and no less than 5.5 in each item can also apply, but one of the four selected courses must be a compulsory English course.)
2.4.Applicants’ families should have a certain economic means and be able to provide tuition fees and living expenses for overseas study.
3.Discipline Direction
【English and cultural studies】Literary history of Britain, America, Australia and the post colonial society; Creative writing and drama; Popular culture and movies
【European languages and studies】Take Europe as a whole subject. Students can choose to major in French studies, German studies, Italian studies, and Spanish studies
【History major】A wide range of fields, including African, Australian, modern European and American history, as well as cultural history and research, urban and environmental history, etc.
【Ancient literature and ancient history】The University of Western Australia is the only university in Western Australia that offers a major in classical and ancient history, focusing on the study of Latin and ancient Greco-Roman civilizations and their contributions to the modern world, especially literature, history and archeology.

5.Learning content
Exchange students in the foreign university should take optional professional courses as required and complete relevant courses. Transcripts from the University of Western Australia will be available after passing the respective course examinations. There are 4 courses available for a total of 24 credits. In addition, we encourage exchange students to participate in academic activities organized by the other school.
6.The Form of Teaching
Learning mode: full time
Faculty: Teachers from the Faculty of Humanities, University of Western Australia give lectures.
Credit management: Credits can be converted into the required credits for the Bachelor's degree of Language and Literature in our college.
Certificate of completion: At the end of the semester, the University of Western Australia will provide the student's grades and written reports, including names of courses, class hours and grades. Credits will be transferred according to the cooperation agreement between the two universities.
7.Project Cost
Tuition fees: 13250 AUD / semester
Cost of living reference: about 1500AUD /month, including accommodation, transportation, food, internet, communication and other expenses.
Air ticket cost reference: 700 ~ 1100 AUD (total round-trip from Hong Kong or Guangzhou to Australia)
8.Scholarship
8.1.Australian scholarship: Tuition fee will be reduced by 10%-25% for successful applicants.
8.2.The "Zhicong" overseas study scholarship of the School of Foreign Languages will be awarded to the top six students with 10,000 yuan for each student.
8.3.Scholarship of international exchange and cooperation department: All successful applicants can further apply for the scholarship of international exchange and cooperation department. Please consult the international exchange and cooperation department for details.
9.Registration and Application Process
9.1.From now on, students should apply by themselves, fill in the registration form ( For details, please see the attachment of the official website notice.) and submit the transcripts and materials related to English or other abilities to Mr. Xie in the academic affairs office of the School (room 2223, the office area of Wenke building) before 17:30 p.m. on October 16 to complete the registration procedures .
9.2.After the preliminary examination of application materials, students will have an interview from which the admission list can be confirmed. The time for the selective interview will be notified separately, and failure to attend the interview will be regarded as an automatic waiver.
9.3.After submitting the formal application materials, paying the tuition fee, obtaining the admission from the school and getting a visa, students can go to Australia for study.
