My name is Anna Pisareva. I am a graduate student here in Shenzhen University doing MA in TESOC program.
I am originally from Russia and have been learning foreign languages since my childhood. Speaking of my undergraduate studies, I did a BA in Linguistics in IFL PFUR (Institute of Foreign Languages of People’s Friendship University of Russia) in Moscow.
As for China and Chinese language, I have started my Chinese journey in 2013 when I realised that China is going to have a huge breakthrough in the entire world, and also I was naturally impressed by this beautiful language and its history. First time in China was in Shanghai, 2014. I spent there two unforgettable months studying Chinese language and exploring the city. Since that time I was lucky to visit few other cities like Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Chongqing and Chengdu. During that period, being a Chinese language student and a passionate photographer, I explored a lot of things like Mandarin and its peculiarities shown in varieties of dialects, local foods and attractions of multiple provinces I have been to, local people and their traditions. To conclude this, I would rather say, China is a big country including multiple aspects of people’s lives and cultures, and this fascinates me a lot.
Being currently based in Shenzhen this opens me tons of opportunities to practice my Chinese and English languages mostly, also, as a linguist and a future teacher, I am rather interested in people’s talks, ideas, thoughts and their lifespans.
Shenzhen is a fast-developing modern megapolis containing a mix of cultures and nations altogether. Wherever you go, you will always find a nice place to visit. You can enjoy yourself with beautifully decorated parks here, you can go hiking as the city is surrounded by dozens of mountains, you can go to the seaside and spend a whole weekend there with your friends, you can meet new people attending varieties of Chinese and international events here, etc.
I live in a student dormitory of Shenzhen University, and being an international student here, you will find it rather important and convenient that all the necessary items a student needs, you will definitely find it here. You can have a calming experience walking around the lakes and alleys, you can go swimming in a pool, you can cycle here as the campus is so big and safe to walk outside, okay basketball, attend a dance class, etc. If you are hungry, you can easily find good food and enjoy local Guangdong food or an international one.
Also, I do really enjoy the climate here and the weather conditions are so nice.
I hope while studying here in Shenzhen University I will make multiple friends with Chinese and international students, and also with our professors by attending lectures, seminars and university events.
