    writer:admin
School of Foreign Languages   May, 2019

The delegation from Piura province of Peru, including Mr. Ivan Silva, Consul General of Peru in Guangzhou, Ms. Indira Fabian Ferrer, advisor to the mayor of Piura, Mr. Eric Salvador Mayorga Gutierrez, head of the External Promotion Department of the University of Piura, Ms. Ma Zheng, Chinese dean of the Confucius Institute of the University of Piura, and 11 other people, visited our university on the morning of May 16, and held talks with Mr. Peng Xiaogang, deputy director of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, Mr. Gu Wei, associate dean of the Institute of International Exchange, Dr. Jin Nana, assistant dean of the School of Foreign Languages, and Xie Jun, Ma Liya and Li Jing, teachers of Spanish Major of the School of Foreign Languages. The two sides made in-depth discussion about issues such as establishing exchanges and cooperation relations between the University of Piura and Shenzhen University.

Before the talks started, teacher Li Jing from the Spanish Major of the School of Foreign Languages gave a wonderful and comprehensive lecture on Chinese culture to the delegation, which covered not only China's geography, population, traditional ideas and customs, but also the achievements of China's reform and opening up, "belt and road" initiative and the history of Shenzhen University. The delegation showed great interest in the content of the lecture and asked a lot of questions. The lecture lasted more than an hour.

When the talks began, deputy director Peng Xiaogang, associate dean Gu Wei and teacher Jin Nana first welcomed the delegation from Piura Province warmly. Deputy director Peng Xiaogang introduced the basic information about our university. Shenzhen University was established in 1983 with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China. Since its establishment 35 years ago, Shenzhen University, as a university in a Special Economic Zone in the forefront of reform and opening up, has been developing rapidly, and its domestic and international rankings are rising rapidly. In addition, Shenzhen University has been actively carrying out internationalization activities, constantly promoting its departments and disciplines to participate in international cooperation, internationalized administration of schools and offering international courses.

Associate Dean Guwei briefed the delegation on the School of International Exchange. The education of international students in Shenzhen University began in 1987. Shenzhen University has cultivated more than 17,000 international students from 96 countries and regions over the past 30 years. With the acceleration of Shenzhen's internationalization, Shenzhen University has also made campus internationalization one of its important goals. At present, about 1200 international students come to our school every year to study language or degree courses, among which the degree courses have realized the full coverage from preparatory to doctoral courses. In addition, in order to attract more excellent international students to study at Shenzhen University, it has set up university-level, city-level and provincial-level scholarships for international students to apply for. At present, there are two international students from Peru studying in our university. It is hoped that this number will increase in the future.

After that, Dr. Jin Nana also introduced the basic information of the School of Foreign Languages to the delegation of Peru. It was founded in 2006. The school currently has 156 full-time faculty members, including 14 professors (including distinguished professors), all of whom graduated from top international universities. The college has five undergraduate majors of English (including English Language and Literature track and Professional English Teaching track), Japanese, French, Spanish and German, three bilingual classes of Japanese-English, English-German and English-Spanish, as well as two special classes of English Drama Class and Senior Interpretation Experimental Class. At present all the majors and classes admit international students. In addition, the school also offers four master programs: English Language and Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Japanese Language and Literature, and TESOC (Teaching English to Speakers of Chinese) with international characteristics. At present, we are planning the master programs of Chinese Foreign Language Teaching, and welcome Peruvian students who are interested in this program to study in our school.

Mr. Eliodoro Carrera Chinga, teacher of the department of Engineering at the University of Piura, and Mr. Eric Salvador Mayorga Gutierrez, head of the External Promotion Department, gave a brief overview of the Piura Province and the University of Piura. Piura is a major trade province in northern Peru, known as the "California of Peru", with developed agriculture, fishery, mining and shipping. The University of Piura, like Shenzhen University, is a young university that just celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and ranks in the top 10 of 143 universities in Peru. During the talks, Mr. Eliodoro Carrera Chinga expressed his strong desire to cooperate with the computer major of Shenzhen University.

In addition, the two sides discussed various ways of cooperation, including student exchange, cooperation between secondary schools, training of teachers and government officials, and agreed to establish a communication mechanism for further discussion of the above cooperation willingness. At last, deputy director Peng Xiaogang and Mr. Eliodoro Carrera Chinga exchanged gifts and took photos together.
