    Assisting the 6th China-CEECs Education Policy Dialogue

    The two high-level conferences of the 6th China-CEECs Education Policy Dialogue held at Shenzhen University on May 28 and 29, 2018 have been successfully concluded!

    Shenzhen University has made a lot of effort as the organizer of the event in the past few days. Teachers and student volunteers from School of Foreign Languages have also assisted this event. Let’s review the exciting activities of the past few days!

    Day 1
    May 27, 2018
    The Pick-Up Chapter
    On May 27, the intense pick-up work began. One after another, teachers and student volunteers of the School of Foreign Languages went to Shenzhen Airport and Shekou Ferry Terminal to pick up delegations. The various twists and turns of arrival and pick-up were the prelude to the China-CEECs Education Policy Dialogue Conference.


    Day 2
    May 28
    The 6th China-CEECs Education Policy Dialogue was held on the third floor of the Kempinski Hotel.This conference was held in Shenzhen, where the Reform and Opening-up Policy was introduced 40 years ago.

    About 200 people attended the conference, including the Vice Minister of Education, Tian Xuejun, officials of various education authorities, and representatives of universities from China-CEEC, as well as CEEC’s ambassadors to China.

    Vice Minister of Education, Tian Xuejun, held a bilateral meeting with the Czech delegation.

    Accompanied by Ms. Tao Yitao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection, together with international guests visited the Tencent Building on the afternoon of May 28.

    This was a high-level conference full of heavyweights. A volunteer team composed of 9 teachers and 8 students was responsible for hosting the ministerial delegations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Romania, Estonia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Albania, and Croatia. Another teacher was responsible for receiving non-ministerial delegations from Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Bulgaria, and Slovenia.




    Volunteers, who were also called "Angels in Red", came to the hotel early in the morning to work at the conference registry.


    May 29
    The 5th Meeting of China-CEECs Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) Consortium was held in the International Conference Hall of Shenzhen University.  

    The Meeting of China-CEECs HEIs Consortium is an international exchange event for higher education institutions. Representatives from 24 universities in 16 countries attended the meeting. Participants included Tian Xuejun, the Vice Minister of Education, Liu Hongyi, the Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University (SZU), Li Qingquan, the President of SZU, Fan Zhigang, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SZU, Li Jun, the Vice President of SZU, and many others.

    Vice Minister Tian Xuejun delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, emphasizing the necessity to make reform the driving force and to take advantage of the “Belt and Road” in order to help China and CEEC achieve fruitful results in the “16+1” cooperation.

    Secretary Liu Hongyi said in his speech that the theme of this meeting is "Strengthening China-CEECs Educational Cooperation and Cultivating Innovative Talents". As an SAR university which is expanding its international cooperation, Shenzhen University is determined to forge ahead and train 100,000 innovative and entrepreneurial talents, represented by Pony Ma and Shi Yuzhu. Shenzhen University has extensively carried out international cooperation, signed strategic cooperation agreements with 13 universities in CEEC, joined the China-CEECs Higher Education Institutions Consortium, and established the "Belt and Road" International Cooperation and Development Research Institute in Shenzhen to explore the innovative model of higher education cooperation in countries along the BRI.

    On the afternoon of the 29th, the delegations of Romania, Czech Republic, and Estonia who participated in this meeting visited Shenzhen University. President Li Qingquan held talks with international representatives. After the meeting, the two parties exchanged gifts and took a group photo to commemorate the event.

    On the afternoon of May 29, Fan Zhigang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University, met with Branka Ramljak, State Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Education of Croatia, Loredana Maravic, Director of the Department of Higher Education Strategy and Internationalization of the Ministry of Science and Education, and Bisera Fabrio, Counselor of the Embassy to China, in Meeting Room 205 of the Office Building at SZU.

    Deputy Secretary Fan Zhigang exchanged gifts with the Croatian representative.

    After the meeting, SZU representatives had in-depth exchanges with representatives of the participating universities. At the closing ceremony on the afternoon of the 29th, Li Jun, the Vice President of SZU, introduced several CCHEIC projects to promote student exchanges between SZU and universities in CEEC. The projects mainly centered on three points: 1) Co-establish the "Belt and Road" library with the University of Novi Sad; 2) Carry out the plan of CCHEIC Student Summer School, which hires internationally-renowned university professors to teach in English and sets up summer scholarships for CEEC students as incentives; 3) Implement the CCHEIC PhD Program, which admits 50 students every year with no tuition fees, and with a large sum of scholarships, to create more opportunities for CEEC students who are interested in pursuing a doctoral degree.

    SZU vice President Li Jun signed a cooperation agreement with representative of the University of Novi Sad.


    Experts from various countries discussed the subject intensively.

    Many delegations also visited Shenzhen University, accompanied by student volunteers and faculty from the School of Foreign Languages, who left a good impression on them.

    Some delegations also arranged separate meetings with Shenzhen University representatives, members of the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau, and principals of Shenzhen middle schools. Teachers and volunteers ("Angels in Red") from the School of Foreign Language were coordinating or interpreting for the whole event!

    All the staff of Shenzhen University were very conscientious and everything was taken into thoughtful consideration during the reception, which fully demonstrated the unique charm of Shenzhen, a city of volunteers. Faculty and student volunteers of SZU earned a high reputation from international delegations. During the airport drop-off, many delegations repeatedly invited the reception teams to visit their countries, and some delegations exchanged gifts with teachers and volunteers. It can be seen that the two sides got along very well in these short days. The international guests also expressed that they were warmed and moved by the enthusiasm of faculty and student volunteers from Shenzhen University.
