The Library of the School of Foreign Languages of Shenzhen University was established in October 2006 with an aim of contributing to the School’s teaching and scientific research activities. Since its establishment, the library has taken various measures to enlarge its book collections, including purchasing new books in the School’s fields of research, increasing the number of foreign books and journals, purchasing books in accordance to suggestions of teachers and graduate students, receiving books from overseas donors, and so on. It has built a collection system with an emphasis on both the size of collection and the special characteristics of foreign language studies.
At present, the library has a collection of 21,000 books, including over 700 reference books, over 13,600 Chinese books and over 7,400 foreign books. The book collection covers various fields including linguistics, literature, literary theory, translation and translation theory, teaching and teaching methods, philosophy, religion, political science, law, history, culture and education. The library has 143 journals, including 70 in Chinese and 73 in foreign languages (English, Japanese, French, German and Spanish). The journals cover the fields of linguistics, literature and literary theory, translation and translation theory, foreign language teaching, and so on.
The library has set up a digital management system which enables resource sharing with the university library. All data concerning books and journals in the library are accessible through the university library database. SZU readers can query and search resources in the school library through the “collection catalog” function of the university library.
