10月25日下午，由深圳出版集团公司与深圳大学外国语学院联合举办的2019年“英语沙龙”暨英语脱口秀比赛成功举办。深圳出版集团有限公司党委副书记曹宇、纪委书记石克平，深圳大学外国语学院院长张晓红教授、Tim Beaumont博士、钱冰老师及书城培训外籍老师Adrian出席了此项活动并担任评委。活动吸引到了来自出版集团和深大外院约60余名观众参加。
On the afternoon of October 25, Shenzhen Publishing Group (SZPG) and the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of Shenzhen University jointly held the 2019 English Salon cum English talk show competition. Judges of the competition included Cao Yu, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of SZPG, Shi Keping, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of SZPG, Prof. Zhang Xiaohong, Dean of SFL, Dr. Tim Beaumont and Ms. Qian Bing, Lecturers from SFL, and Mr. Adrian, English lanugage trainer of Shenzhen Book City. The salon attracted an audience of more than sixty from both SZPG and SFL.

下午两点，深圳大学南区“简阅书吧”三楼小剧场里摆满了令人垂涎欲滴的中式点心及西式茶点。书城培训外教Adrian邀请现场观众围绕“中西方美食与文化”展开讨论。大家一边品尝美食，一边畅所欲言，以此拉开了本次沙龙的序幕。
At 2 pm, tasty Chinese dim sum and Western refreshments were provided in the small theater on the third floor of the Jianyue Book Bar in the South Campus of SZU. Mr. Adrian invited participants to talk about food and culture in China and the West. The salon started when the participants were tasting delicious food and talking freely.
接着是本次活动的重头戏——英语脱口秀环节。“快到我们了，好紧张，紧张到想要跳舞”，英语脱口秀参赛选手、深圳大学法语系大三学生郑玟说。蓄势待发的18组选手摩拳擦掌、跃跃欲试，一场精彩绝伦且激动人心的比赛开始了。选手们围绕“中西方美食与文化”为主题，从中西方的餐桌礼仪谈到饮食习惯，从旅游觅食说到家的味道，从上海佳肴的甜腻讲到湖南食物的变态辣，从个人的美食趣事聊到两人的爱情故事等。本次比赛还出现了不少双人交谈式和情节式演讲，比传统的单人脱口秀形式更为创新多样。
Then came the most interesting and important part of the event, the English talk show. “It's coming! I’m so nervous that I want to dance,” said Zheng Wen, a contestant of the English Talk Show and a junior student majoring in French at SZU. Eighteen groups of contestants were ready to deliver a great performance in the exciting competition. With the theme of Chinese and Western Food and Culture, the contestants spoke on a wide range of topics, from Chinese and Western table manners to eating habits; from the food eaten when travelling to the taste of home; from sweet and greasy Shanghai cuisine to startlingly spicy Hunan food; and from amusing personal anecdotes about food to love stories relating to food. In addition to speeches, there were many innovative performances including dialogues and acting.

经过2个多小时紧张而激烈的角逐，来自深圳出版集团公司的员工陈思思从18组选手中脱颖而出，获得一等奖。在赛后采访中，她表示：“深圳大学外国语学院学弟学妹们英语口语真的很好，这给了我不少的压力，当然也给了我重返校园的熟悉感。”评审代表，来自深大外国语学院的Tim Beaumont博士表示，本次脱口秀选题贴近生活，期待将来可以举办更多类似的活动，让大家深入交流中西文化。
After the more than two hours of intense and fierce competition, Chen Sisi, an employee of SZPG, stood out from 18 groups of competitors and won the first prize. Chen said, “Just now, I was very nervous. SZU students did a really good job, which gave me a lot of pressure. But competing with them also makes me feel like returning to the campus.” Dr. Tim Beaumont said that the topic of the talk show was close to our daily lives. He looks forward to more opportunities in the future for exchanges of understanding between Chinese and Western cultures.

赛后，张晓红院长对此次比赛做了总结点评。她认为选手们都准备得很充分，舞台表现也相当出色。她还指出，外国语学院一直在拓宽各种培养平台和渠道，希望为学生创造更多更好的机会和条件，让他们能在开放、多元、国际化的环境中获得最好的滋养。最后，张晓红院长附上深情寄语：“深大的学子们，你们都是小荔荔，你们此刻都是在梦想开始的地方，勇敢地去追逐自己的梦想，去实现自己的梦想，在梦想的舞台上遇见最好的自己。”
After the competition, Prof. Zhang praised that the contestants were well prepared and performed well on the stage. She also indicated that SFL has been creating more opportunities for students so that they can get the best nourishment in an open, diversified, and international environment. Finally, Prof. Zhang delivered an inspiring message to all, “SZU students, you are really hardworking. Right now, you are at the beginning of your dreams. Be brave in pursuing your dreams, and you will realize your dreams and become your best self when chasing them.”
